Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an exclusive Maybach S680 created to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking, a historic luxury brand that crafts fine yachts and silverware. The S680 is inspired by the Sphinx 12mR yacht, which Robbe & Berking restored some years ago. The wooden yacht was first built in 1939 and is well-known in sailing circles.

The Maybach S680 has the same two-tone color scheme as the 12mR yacht, with Nautical Blue metallic and Manufaktur Patagonia Red paintwork. It’s an unusual pairing, but it’s very elegant. The two colors are separated by a subtle pinstripe, finished in Manufaktur Opalite White. This matches the yacht’s white waterline.

Leather, Wood, And Everything Good

Step inside the plush German, and the nautical theme continues. The interior is trimmed in high-end Manufaktur Exclusive Nappa leather in Crystal White with diamond quilting. The supple upholstery receives Orion Gray stitching, which contrasts nicely with the white hide. Mercedes has even recreated the look of the ship’s deck with gorgeous walnut wood trim and aluminum trim strips.

As the last word in Mercedes luxury, the S680’s rear quarters come with Bentley-rivalling touches. These include custom Nappa leather-trimmed cushions in white with Orion Gray diamond stitching and embossed Maybach logos, power-operated comfort doors, and a Burmester 4D surround sound system. Of course, passengers can stretch out in comfort and watch something on the rear-seat entertainment system.

Sip Champagne From Robbe & Berking Silver-Plated Goblets

VIPs traveling in the rear seat of an S680 are accustomed to certain luxuries, such as Dom Pérignon. These lucky customers can enjoy a glass of bubbly courtesy of the cooling compartment and two silver-plated champagne goblets. The goblets are crafted by Robbe & Berking, carrying on a partnership the two brands have had since 2002.

“Like the yacht Sphinx, our exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class anniversary vehicle epitomizes craftsmanship, elegance, and attention to detail. We congratulate Robbe & Berking on their anniversary and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration.”

– Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz Group AG

Interested? Sorry, It’s Already Sold

Mercedes-Maybach has made just one example. If you’re interested, we have some bad news: the car has already been reserved for one lucky customer, but we’re guessing the craftspeople in the Manufaktur department would be able to create something similar – for a price, of course. As a reminder, the S680 has a starting price of $235,450 (before options). Adding Patagonia Red paint, Crystal White leather, and a cooling box with silver flutes pushes the price to $262,300.

More expensive ultra-luxury rivals aren’t necessarily better than the Maybach GLS.

As a reminder, the S680 is powered by one of the last V12s left. The 6.0-liter twin-turbo engine is deathly silent but has enough power to put some supercars to shame: 621 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, to be exact. While rapid, the S680 is all about serenity and refinement. If you prefer your Maybachs to be dynamically gifted, you’ll have to wait for the Maybach SL to arrive if you want a more dynamic Maybach. It is expected to come with unique styling, even more luxury, and AMG muscle.
