Rear Seat Belt Upgrade Clinched The TSP+ Rating
Last year, the 2024 Pilot only received a Top Safety Pick rating, so what has changed? For MY2025, Honda improved the rear seatbelts for greater second-row passenger protection in the updated moderate overlap front crash test. It may be a mainstream SUV, but the 2025 Pilot ships with various standard safety features.

Excellent Overall Performance By The 2025 Pilot
Per the IIHS test, the rear dummy’s lap belt in the 2025 Pilot moved “from the ideal position on the pelvis onto the abdomen, which increases the risk of abdominal injuries.” Thankfully, the shoulder belt didn’t place excessive force on the dummy’s chest. IIHS measurements show no “elevated risk of injury” to the rear dummy, while the protection for the driver was described as “excellent.”

Every Honda SUV On Sale Ranked By Reliability
Honda has a reputation for reliability, and its SUV range justifies that reputation exceedingly well.
The midsize SUV proves again that size doesn’t always matter when it comes to safety. The 2025 Honda Pilot performed better than the Jeep Wagoneer, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Ford Expedition. Only the Jeep received a Top Safety Pick rating, while the Chevy and Ford received middling crash test ratings. But Honda’s improvements to the Pilot show that manufacturers can (and do) make safer cars based on recommendations from the IIHS and other safety organizations, so stringent regulations are all the more important.
