The Huracan’s V8 Successor Won’t Stop At 10,000 RPM After All

Key Takeaways

  • Lamborghini teases Huracán successor ahead of imminent reveal.
  • The twin-turbo hybrid V8 engine will rev beyond 10,000 rpm.
  • New baby Lambo is expected to arrive in August.

The third generation of the baby Lambo will be with us shortly. The Huracan successor is scheduled to be revealed in the coming months with an incredible turbocharged V8 powerplant, a power plant we were told would rev to 10,000 rpm. Lamborghini has now shared another teaser for the upcoming supercar by referencing its predecessors, the Gallardo and Huracan, and their high-revving engines, and it seems the crescendo will be reached slightly beyond 10k, as evidenced by a new clip shared to Instagram.

Lamborghini

While it may have two fewer cylinders than its V10-engined predecessors, the electrified newcomer (it has three electric motors) promises incredible performance, with the gas engine developing 789 horsepower alone. Total outputs are yet to be published, but we’re bracing for a big number. The latest teaser shows an early pre-facelift Gallardo, the original baby Lambo, racing around a track, with the needle racing towards the 8,050 rpm rev limiter. Things only get more raucous as the clip progresses to Huracán variants.

Revs Beyond 10,000 RPM

The original Huracán’s V10 howls as the needle sweeps past the 8,000 rpm mark. The Huracán could rev up to 8,500 rpm, surpassing the Gallardo. The replacement – predicted by CarBuzz to be called the Temerario – goes further and doesn’t even stop at 10,000 rpm, as indicated by the teaser. Lamborghini says, “It’s a kind of crescendo. And we won’t stop here… Ready?” in reference to the ever-rising revs and engine noise. A production engine that can rev to 10,000 rpm is already incredible, but the latest teaser confirms that the Huracan replacement will go beyond that point. It’s unclear exactly where the redline and fuel cutoff will be, but at least 10,100 rpm will be possible.

Every Manufacturer Still Building A V10 In 2024

Here’s everything you need to know about the rise and fall of the V10 engine and where to look if you want to drive one in 2024.

Does that make up for the fact that the V10 is dead? That remains to be seen, as we’re yet to get a taste of what the new engine will sound like. Perhaps Lamborghini is trying to tell us that the new twin-turbo hybrid V8 will sound as good as the outgoing V10. We suspect Sant’Agata may have developed a unique exhaust system to amplify the new motor’s notes, making for something more soulful and melodic than the current crop of dull-sounding turbo V8s.

What We Know About The New V8

As mentioned, the engine alone produces 789 horses. Earlier this year, Stephan Winkelmann said the combined outputs would exceed 900 CV, about 888 American horses. This would make sense; anything more would cause the Huracan replacement to step on the toes of the more expensive Revuelto.

2023 Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica: One Of The Final V10 Supercars

The Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica is one of the final variants of the V10 supercar that has been on the market since 2014.

We expect Lamborghini to remain tight-lipped on additional details until the vehicle debuts later this year. The proverbial covers will be whipped off in August, which leads us to believe it will debut at Monterey Car Week, the ideal setting for a new Lamborghini. While traditionalists may lament the loss of the V10, let’s not forget that past baby Lambos – Urraco, Jalpa, Silhouette – were powered by eight-cylinder motors, and this will be one of the highest-revving V8s ever. Moreover, the second-gen Gallardo and every Huracán engine lost the split-pin crankshaft and even firing order that gave the long-faced first-gen such an emotive aural quality.
