2025 Mazda CX-5 Is Even Better Value For Money Than Last Year

Key Takeaways

  • Mazda announces pricing and specification for the MY2024 CX-5 crossover.
  • Entry-level 2.5 S trim makes a return with a starting price of $28,570.
  • Several trims are available, all of which are well-appointed for their price points.

Mazda has revealed pricing and specifications for the 2025 CX-5, which has been around since 2017. While it’s getting up there in age, the CX-5 is one of America’s favorite small crossovers, with strong sales since it arrived. Mazda emphasizes value for money for MY2025 by reintroducing the entry-level 2.5 S trim, which comes in at a competitive $28,570. It would appear Mazda has discontinued the 2.5 S Premium trim. CarBuzz has reached out to the automaker for more information.

Select And Preferred Trims Offer Luxury For Less

If that’s a bit too spartan for your tastes, the 2.5 S Select and 2.5 S Preferred offer more luxury for not much more outlay. The former receives rear privacy glass, body-colored exterior trim, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, faux leather upholstery, and keyless entry. The Preferred steps things up with a glass sunroof, power-operated tailgate, leather seats, and power-adjustable front seats (with two-way memory for the driver).

Those looking to stand out will gravitate towards the 2.5 S Carbon Edition. With Polymetal Gray paintwork, 19-inch wheels, and gloss black exterior trim, the Carbon Edition sets itself apart with sinister style. Customers can choose from sporty red leather or black leather with red stitching. A 10-speaker Bose Premium Audio system is part of the package. For 2025, the Carbon Edition receives a wireless device charger and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

Want More Power? Step Up To A Turbo Model

The 2.5 S Premium Plus adds selectable drive modes (Normal, Off-Road, Sport), a 360-degree camera system, front/rear parking sensors, and a head-up display. The top-spec naturally-aspirated CX-5 also receives ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel, paddle shifters, and 19-inch wheels, to name a few features. All 2.5 S trims are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

The Third-Generation Mazda CX-5 Will Receive Hybrid Drivetrain

The third-generation CX-5 will receive an in-house developed hybrid drivetrain, while the CX-50 is also expected to receive hybrid power.

Fancy more power from your crossover? You’ll have to spend more on the 2.5 Turbo trims. Available in three grades, the 2.5 Turbo trims offer 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of power, dramatically improving performance. The most affordable entry point is the Carbon Turbo. This model is available exclusively with Zircon Sand Metallic or Rhodium White paint and, like its 2.5 S sibling, receives black exterior trim. Inside, the Carbon Turbo is upholstered with classy Terracotta leather and Black faux suede inserts. All Turbo models receive heated/ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, paddle shifters, and a 360-degree camera.

The Turbo Premium gets everything the 2.5 S Premium has, including heated rear seats, Traffic Jam Assist, and power-folding mirrors. Visually, the Turbo Premium distinguishes itself with a gloss black grille and red stitching for the heated steering wheel and gear lever. At the top of the pack is the Turbo Signature. The Signature is set apart from the rest of the pack with aluminum and gunmetal exterior flourishes.

This is noticeable inside, where you’ll find a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, satellite navigation, and traffic sign recognition. The cabin is elevated with luxurious materials, such as woodgrain inlays and Caturra Brown Nappa leather. The Premium also gets Smart City Brake Support Reverse, and driver attention assist added to the i-Activesense bouquet of safety features.

What’s Next For The CX-5?

While the more rugged CX-50 has received a hybrid option for MY2025, the CX-5 soldiers on with just two engine options. Those wanting a hybrid won’t have to wait long, as Mazda has confirmed that the next generation will receive an electrified drivetrain. That means MY2025 may be the last for the current generation, with the new model expected to arrive sometime next year. As for optional extras, Mazda doesn’t offer any, but certain paint finishes cost more:

  • Soul Red Crystal Metallic: $595
  • Machine Gray Metallic: $595
  • Rhodium White Metallic: $595
  • Zircon Sand Metallic: $450

All 2025 CX-5 pricing listed above excludes Mazda’s $1,420 destination fee.
