Genesis Planning A Rival To AMG’s Luxury Flagship

Genesis will introduce a larger member of the Magma performance vehicle family, reportedly the size of the G90, a full-size sedan. According to The Korea Herald, Hyundai Group’s luxury division is already working on the model, particularly with its dedicated platform, which will be different from the previously introduced compact and midsize Magma models.

No information about the G90-sized Magma model has been shared yet, but it’s expected to share the merits of other Magma concepts – better dynamic driving performance without compromising luxury. Its execution on a large sedan would be tricky, though, so we can watch out for this in the years to come.

Performance Limo?

The Genesis G90 is a flagship luxury sedan that was born to rival German stalwarts like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. In its standard configuration, it measures 76 inches wide, 58.7 inches tall, and 207.7 inches long, extending up to 215.2 inches in its long-wheelbase version. Naturally, the Genesis G80 EV Magma Concept introduced a few months ago is much smaller.

We revere the G90 for its luxurious cabin and smooth power delivery, which will be amplified further in its Magma version. As with other Magma concepts, expect a wider body and lower stance for improved handling. Increasing the power output isn’t the focus of Magma models, so we’re not expecting ludicrous numbers. Of course, the eye-catching orange livery of Magma concepts is everything but confirmed at this point.

The Magma Family

The Genesis Magma Concept family isn’t limited to being concept cars. They will eventually hit production, with the GV60 Magma announced as the first to hit production next year. Other Magma concepts introduced include the G80 Magma Special, G80 Electrified Magma Concept, Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept, Genesis X Gran Racer Concept, GV80 Coupe Concept, and G70 Track Taxi.

Apart from the rumored G90 Magma Concept, we can’t say there’s more to come from the performance brand. However, considering our experience with the G70 Track Taxi was one for the books, an expanded Magma family isn’t the worst that could happen.
