Updated BMW 7 Series Won’t Make The Same Mistake Twice

Key Takeaways

  • The facelifted BMW 7 Series will likely feature smaller kidney grilles similar to the 5 Series.
  • Changes to the front and rear, along with updated cabin features, are expected in the next update.
  • Anticipate a base price increase and a 2026 launch for the next-generation BMW 7 Series.

CarBuzz spy photographers in Spain have captured images of a test mule for the facelifted BMW 7 Series. The G70 7 Series only debuted in April 2022, so it hasn’t been around for very long, but by the time it is due for a refresh in a year or so from now, other Bimmers will have moved on to a more modern design language inspired by Neue Klasse concepts. With that in mind, it makes sense to update the luxury limo’s looks, and according to these images, both the front and rear of the car will be revised, as will the cabin.

A Smaller Grille?

It’s difficult to see exactly what has changed with this much camouflage, but it does look like the kidney grilles on the facelifted 7 Series will be smaller and more akin to those seen on the latest BMW 5 Series. Unlike that car, however, it appears that a split design will characterize the headlights once again. The lighting units seen here are only placeholders, but they give us an idea of where the production headlights will be cited, and while the daytime running lights have been obscured, the main lighting systems will continue to be housed well below the hood.

Opinion: We Love BMW’s Neue Klasse Design Language But Looks Don’t Matter

BMW’s new design direction is something to look forward to but buyers will be more interested in what’s underneath the surface.

The shape of the glasshouse and the embellishments surrounding it appear to be carrying over unchanged, while at the rear, extensive camouflage again suggests that we’ll see a new taillight design with new graphics. Presumably, this hints at a lightly restyled rear fascia, too. Quad exhaust pipes are no longer exclusive to a full-fat M car, and the fact that they’re evident on this prototype means that we can expect the range-topping 760i to live on with its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Inside, we expect to see subtle trim updates and the latest Drive infotainment system but an otherwise familiar cabin.

A Long Wait Before The Reveal

As we touched on at the outset, the G70 is still a relative newcomer to the market, so it’s unlikely that Munich intends to launch an update for some time yet. Typically, it takes around three to four years for BMW to apply a Life Cycle Impulse (update) to a new car, and insiders say that the German automaker will likely stick to this timeline for the 7 Series, updating the luxury sedan in July 2026.

Most Expensive Options On The 2024 BMW 7 Series

The 2024 BMW 7 Series is impressive inside and out, from the engine bay to the rear seats – only the price of its options can dampen its appeal.

This has yet to be confirmed, but we doubt BMW would deviate from its typical product planning schedule too much. For the record, the 2024 7 Series carries a base price of $96,400 for the 740i and up to $121,300 for the 760i xDrive (excluding a $995 destination charge). Although the current 7 Series already has tech no rival can boast, we expect more innovations in 2026 and a corresponding price increase.
