Elon Musk Has Good News For All Tesla Owners

Key Takeaways

  • Elon Musk announces Actually Smart Summon feature coming with FSD V12.5.x update in August.
  • The feature will utilize GPS to summon a Tesla to the owner’s location; it can park and unpark the vehicle.
  • FSD 12.5 is highly praised by Tesla drivers for its smooth and intuitive capabilities.

Tesla’s chief executive Elon Musk has shared an update regarding Actually Smart Summon, a feature that has long been teased but has yet to return to customer vehicles. The CEO announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the handy feature will be introduced with the FSD V12.5.x update in August.

Tesla

Tesla, Inc. is an American electric vehicle manufacturer largely attributed to driving the EV revolution. Through the Model S and subsequent products, Tesla has innovated and challenged industry conventions on numerous fronts, including over-the-air updates, self-driving technology, and automotive construction methods. Tesla is considered the world’s most valuable car brand as of 2023, and the Model Y the world’s best-selling car in the same year, but the brand’s greatest achievement is arguably the Supercharger network of EV charging stations.

In May, Musk said the technology would be made available “soon,” following questions about its arrival; he rarely provides an exact date until a release is imminent. For those who aren’t aware, the Actually Smart Summon feature would reintroduce several nifty convenience features. As the name suggests, owners would be able to ‘summon’ the vehicle to their location. According to Not A Tesla App, the technology relies on GPS coordinates and lets the Tesla drive itself to your location (but only in a parking lot, of course).

This Feature Sounds Very Familiar…

Of course, this isn’t exactly new. There was previously a summon feature, but it was withdrawn when Tesla stopped using ultrasonic sensors in its vehicles about two years ago. The new system will likely bring myriad improvements and additional features. Actually Smart Summon is expected to park and retrieve the car, allowing owners to take advantage of tighter spaces they normally wouldn’t be able to use.

The convenient Banish (autopark) feature hasn’t been confirmed as yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it arrives as part of the FSD V12.5.x updates, or follows shortly afterward. This would allow you to get out at your destination and send your Tesla in search of a parking spot. Either way, the Tesla faithful have plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks, but several other automakers offer self-parking features already, so this is no longer a unique selling point.

FSD 12.5 Has Won Over Tesla Drivers

The news of Actually Smart Summon’s arrival (we refuse to use the childish acronym) arrived when Tony Duan, a Tesla Machine Learning Scientist, said on X that the Tesla team put a lot of work into making FSD 12.5 possible. He added that he hopes “everyone has a chance to try it out” as it’s a release that Tesla is proud of. Based on initial responses, 12.5 is proving to be smooth and intuitive. Tesla has asked dealers to increase free demonstrations of the so-called Full Self-Driving feature in a bid to relay its purported value to more households.

Elon Musk’s Latest Tesla Roadster Claims Seem Hard To Believe

The Tesla Roadster is meant to be the ultimate showcase of Tesla technology, but Musk also says AI is the company’s main focus. Well…

There are multiple videos and posts on social media documenting the improvements, and showcasing FSD 12.5 navigating tricky situations and making quick decisions. Tesla is making great strides in the autonomous area, and we expect even more improvements and upgrades to be rolled out, especially as we draw closer to the reveal of the much-anticipated Tesla robotaxi, which is due to arrive in October.
