Something Special From Lamborghini Is Less Than Three Weeks Away

Key Takeaways

  • Lamborghini will unveil the Huracán successor at Monterey Car Week.
  • The new supercar will produce over 888 horsepower from a race-derived V8 and three electric motors.
  • Huracán replacement expected to be called Temerario.

After months of speculation, automotive enthusiasts will finally get to see what Lamborghini has been working on when its Huracán successor debuts in California next month. The news arrived in a press release detailing Lamborghini’s sales for the second quarter, which have been strong once again: “Another milestone will soon be reached with the unveiling of the successor to the Huracán on August 16 at Monterey Car Week.”

Lamborghini

Automobili Lamborghini was created in 1963 after its founder had a disagreement with Enzo Ferrari over the cost of servicing his cars, arguing that Ferrari was overcharging for off-the-shelf parts. Enzo didn’t respond amicably, so Ferruccio took matters into his own hands with the 350 GT. Lamborghini later introduced the Miura, widely regarded as the first true supercar and one of the prettiest ever made. These days, the brand’s identity is characterized by AWD drivetrains, outrageous special editions, and raucous engines. The 1,001-hp Revuelto is its current V12 flagship, while the Urus SUV is its bestseller.

At the same event last year, Sant’Agata presented the Lanzador concept, a preview of its first-ever all-electric vehicle. With the reveal of the Huracán successor, which follows that of the hybridized Urus SE, Lamborghini’s entire range will be electrified. Thankfully, despite the additions of boost and electricity, the new supercar certainly won’t be short on emotion.

A Very Special V8 With A 10K RPM Redline

Lamborghini has already confirmed what engine the new supercar – expected to be named Temerario – will be powered by, and while its configuration may sound familiar, the power plant is removed from anything else within the Volkswagen family. The 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 is believed to be derived from the 3.8-liter unit in the Lamborghini SC63 Le Mans hypercar and features a flat-plane crankshaft.

On its own, the engine delivers 798 horsepower, but the combined output for the Huracán successor will exceed 888 hp, thanks to the addition of three electric motors, one of which is borrowed from the Revuelto. The new plug-in hybrid supercar will also borrow the Revuelto’s specially developed eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle transmission and promises a redline of at least 10,000 rpm.

Monterey Car Week Will Be One For The Books

We’re firm believers that Monterey Car Week is now the best car show in the world, and the fact that Lamborghini’s new supercar will make its global debut there reiterates that there’s no better place to see the latest and greatest automobiles ever imagined. Of course, Lamborghini won’t have the spotlight to itself. The event runs from August 9-18 and will welcome a one-off BMW M5 to be auctioned for charity, plenty of pre- and post-war classics, the new Bugatti Tourbillon, and even an all-new hypercar from a former Koenigsegg designer. We’ll bring you all the information live from the event next month.
