The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is one of the quickest crossovers money can buy. But with the optional Performance Upgrade, it can be given supercar levels of acceleration, and for just $995. Now, the Blue Oval has announced that the Performance Upgrade can be purchased through the FordPass app, which means customers no longer have to decide when purchasing the vehicle.

By activating the one-time purchase, the already strong performance of the 2024 Mach-E GT is greatly improved. For context, the ‘standard’ model springs from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and crosses the quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds. Those are already impressive numbers, but with the Performance Upgrade, the Mustang Mach-E GT needs just 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and 11.8 seconds to cover the quarter-mile.
Ford Wants To Introduce More Software-Based Upgrades
The upgrade increases torque from 600 lb-ft to 700 lb-ft, which provides extra grunt and acceleration. Ford says it introduced the Performance upgrade after listening to what customers wanted, which was more options through over-the-air software upgrades.

Ford doesn’t go into much detail, but Chet Dhruna, General Manager of Integrated Services, says the Performance Upgrade has “innovative powertrain thermal modeling and control algorithms.” This isn’t the only OTA update that will be offered to Ford customers. The automaker says it is looking at how it can “make the ownership experience better over time,” which suggests different types of upgrades, and not just performance-oriented ones.
Quicker Than Most Rivals And Purpose-Built Sports Cars
With this upgrade, the Mustang Mach-E GT is considerably faster than its rivals. Ford says it will out-accelerate the new Porsche Macan 4S Electric and the Tesla Model Y Performance, but 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds means it is even quicker than the Ferrari Roma and even the updated Porsche 911 Carrera.
