The Coolest Porsche That’s Not A Porsche Is Finally Heading To Production

Key Takeaways

  • Production of the Marsien by Marc Philipp Gemballa has kicked off.
  • Just 40 units off the all-terrain supercar will be built, and the entire run is sold out.
  • The creation features custom carbon fiber bodywork, a luxurious interior, and as much as 830 horsepower.

A few years ago, Marc Philipp Gemballa, son of the late Uwe Gemballa, announced the highly limited Marsien, a Porsche 911-based supercar that has been designed for use both on- and off-road. Now, the marque has announced that production of the Marsien is well underway, with all 40 units already spoken for. It’s worth noting that the Marsien and Marc Philipp Gemballa are not associated with the Gemballa tuning house founded by Marc Philipp’s father.

Between the 2021 reveal and now, the Marsien has been subjected to a rigorous development process, with testing taking place at the Nürburgring, the United Arab Emirates, and the cold climes of Scandinavia. The engineers behind the Marsien were previously responsible for Le Mans racers and developed 422 bespoke components for the car, ranging from the titanium exhaust system to the double wishbone suspension.

The Marsien’s suspension is made from solid aluminum and is equipped with active damper control, solid piston damper technology, and an adjustable ride height that allows the car to be used on tarmac and rougher terrain. If customers wish, the Marsien’s suspension bits can be anodized in gold. The suspension lifts by a maximum of 9.8 inches, which is quite impressive for a car like this.

Forged aluminum center-locking wheels were specially designed for the Marsien. For road use, they’re wrapped in Michelin Ultra High Performance tires, while off-road duty sees the use of Grabber AT 3 All-Terrain tires. Clients can also opt for Lightweight GT wheels as a means of reducing unsprung mass . A custom carbon fiber exterior – comprising more than 85 individual pieces – transforms the Marsien into a true head-turner.

Up To 830 HP On Tap

A far cry from the 992-generation Turbo S on which it’s based, the lightweight bodywork reduces weight by 110 lbs compared to the donor car. It’s a very striking design, with elements from the revived Porsche 935 present, as well as touches of the iconic 959 and even the Carrera GT. Customers can choose from contrasting body pieces, or go for an exposed carbon fiber look, with a matte, gloss, or tinted finish.

A modern-day 959 is happening.

But that’s enough about the (glorious) styling. Powering the Marsien is a six-cylinder boxer engine tuned by RUF to develop more than 750 horsepower and a staggering 686 lb-ft of torque. Those seeking more power can always specify the upgrade package, which boosts outputs to 830 hp, courtesy of VTG turbos and new ECU mapping. To get a bark that matches the bite, Marc Philipp Gemballa has teamed up with Akrapovič to develop the aforementioned titanium exhaust. Not only does it amplify the sound, but it improves performance courtesy of its lightweight construction.

Just 40 Will Be Made

While it may be an all-terrain marauder, the Marsien features an interior worthy of any luxury car. The bare bones will be familiar to any Porsche owner or enthusiast, some changes have been made. For a start, the center console has been lifted and now has an aluminum gear stick jutting out. This can be had in several materials, including leather, carbon fiber, or mahogany. An optional carbon fiber interior package and a club sports roll bar are also available. We can’t wait to see what the completed cars look like. With just 40 destined for the roads, each of them are bespoke cars with unique touches, and will undoubtedly become collectors’ items.
