The Pininfarina Battista Is Evolving Into Something New

Key Takeaways

  • Automobili Pininfarina will reveal a coachbuilt one-off car at the prestigious Monterey Car Week.
  • The automaker describes the one-of-a-kind creation as a “unique sculptural statement.”
  • Aside from the one-off car, Pininfarina will feature a Battista hypercar owners’ parade at the event.

The prestigious Monterey Car Week will play host to the world’s wealthiest car enthusiasts and high-end automakers in the coming weeks. In attendance will be Italy’s Automobili Pininfarina, which will reveal a coachbuilt one-off commissioned by a customer in North America.

Not much is known about the mystery masterpiece yet, but Pininfarina describes the one-of-one car as a “unique sculptural statement” that blends the very best craftsmanship with engineering integrity. The accompanying teaser image doesn’t give much away, showing a fluted panel that is unlike the regular rear window seen on the Battista.

What Could This Be?

On closer inspection, we can see the silver-colored panel emitting a red glow, suggesting the placement of a third brake light. If that’s the case, we’re looking at an aerial shot of the vehicle’s rear. An illuminated Pininfarina logo can also be seen, along with carbon fiber detailing that flows out towards the rest of the bodywork.

It will be interesting to see whether this is an actual engine cover or just a statement piece. After all, Automobili Pininfarina is fairly committed to electrification, with its Battista supercar being one of the quickest-accelerating production cars in the world. We wouldn’t be surprised if this coachbuilt motorcar uses the Battista’s quad-electric motor setup which delivers 1,877 horsepower and 1,726 lb-ft of torque. While less likely, it would be great to see the hydrogen-powered 2.5-liter V6 that powers the Pininfarina Enigma 2+2 concept.

“Delivering our first coach-built creation to a client is an exceptionally exciting milestone for the brand. With it, we are delivering on the promise we made in Monterey exactly 12 months ago as we unveiled
the B95 Hyper Barchetta
– that we have the design, engineering, and artisan production skills in Cambiano, Italy to create bespoke, coach-built ‘one-of-one’ masterpieces for our clients. One year later, this amazing car gives us another chance to celebrate our ability to make their dreams come true.”

What Else Can Pininfarina Fans Expect?

While the performance will undoubtedly be astonishing, the coachbuilt motorcar is more about design and craftsmanship, with the automaker describing the car as a “celebration of purity.” The individual behind the commission played a major role in bringing this car to fruition, with Automobili Pininfarina noting the design team and client had an “intimate collaboration.” Very little detail has been given about the owner, apart from the fact that they’re a prominent car collector and existing Battista owner.
