Next-Gen Nissan Patrol Teased For The First Time

Key Takeaways

  • Nissan has started the teaser campaign for the next-generation Patrol.
  • The first teaser details include the new V-Motion grille, with more teasers to come in the following weeks.
  • To be known as the Armada when it arrives state-side, expect a shift to a twin-turbo V6 engine.

Nissan is gearing up to launch the next-generation Patrol and has launched a teaser campaign for its major market, the Middle East. While the teaser website didn’t mention any nameplate, buzzwords like “Iconic model” and the uncanny contour shown via a 360-degree viewer point us to the full-size SUV, which will be known as the Nissan Armada when it arrives in the US to reinforce its aging lineup.

The silhouettes don’t give away too much, but it tells us that the next-gen Patrol will retain its muscular hood and boxy body, albeit with a slightly sloping roofline. Nissan also revealed the model’s launch date, which is set to happen on September 4 or around 30 days from now. But before that happens, Nissan has shared a few details about the upcoming Patrol, which it will continue to do so in the following weeks.

Weekly Strip Tease

While waiting for the debut, the teaser website states that a part of the vehicle will be teased every Thursday. This has already started, with the car’s V-Motion grille fully shown to reveal details like the meshed design and the twin horizontal chrome strips that cut across the emblem. Beyond those, there’s nothing much to see, but we all know that the new-generation Infiniti QX80 launched this year has already given us a clue about what to expect from the Patrol/Armada.

We can expect the Patrol and the US-spec Armada, which have been identical since 2017, to drop the V8 and have a twin-turbo V6 under the hood, as confirmed by Nissan a few years ago. This power plant will come from the same family of engines as the Nissan GT-R. There will also be a size increase plus an interior redesign that will make it friendlier to users.

A More Upmarket SUV

Another thing to watch out for is how Nissan will make the Patrol/Armada “Range Rove-like,” as shared by Nissan dealers who had the chance to see the SUV last year. We’re assuming these dealers were referring to its overall appearance, but the stiff competition in the full-size SUV segment leads us to expect a more upmarket cabin to sway buyers into the brand.

Infiniti recently launched the all-new QX80, showing us what to expect from the next-generation Nissan Armada.

Then again, with the Infiniti QX80 as the more luxurious option, we still hope the Armada will be as relatively affordable as the outgoing model. Its rugged capabilities should still be paramount so to serve as a nod to the nameplate’s roots and heritage.
