2025 Nissan Frontier Could Finally Deliver A Worthy Tacoma Rival

Key Takeaways

  • 2025 Nissan Frontier updated with styling and connectivity updates and a max tow rating of 7,150 lbs.
  • Styling updates include a new front fascia, wheel options, and interior redesign with a bigger display.
  • Additional standard safety tech across the lineup.
  • 6-foot bed option now available on all trims.

Nissan has listened to customers and given them more of what they want in the 2025 Frontier: a better tech experience that includes wireless Android Auto, a long-wheelbase configuration with a six-foot bed option across the lineup, a greater maximum tow rating of up to 7,150 lbs (compared to a maximum of 6,640 lbs in the 2024 model), and a few subtle changes to make the cabin more comfortable There’s also been a styling update with a new front fascia, new PRO-X and PRO-4X weels, and the addition of Afterburn Orange to the list of available paints. Pricing has not yet been announced, but Nissan will figure that out closer to the dealership arrival period sometime this summer.

Styling Updates

Nissan is showing the new paint on a high-end PRO-4X model, and this is where the exterior designers have had the most freedom. A new tailgate finisher for it and the regular PRO-X model (which comes without an electronic locking rear differential) has been styled, and the front fascia of the 2025 update gets a more chiseled look, thanks to a new grille design that visually widens the central intake mesh, now flowing into the DRLs in each headlight in a more coherent manner. That mesh is also new, with a more triangular shape, and the bumper is now sleeker. Finally, the lower light housings are now connected to the fake air curtains with a piece of black trim that matches the new bumper. As touched on at the outset, new 17-inch wheels have also been fitted, and inside, the dashboard has been redesigned with new trimmings. SV variants now also get 17-inch wheels as standard.

Speaking of the cabin, Nissan finally fitted a telescopic steering wheel on all models, and a four-way passenger seat is now standard on PRO-X, PRO-4X, and range-topping SL trims, while SV and higher trims (everything but the base S trim) now get two-way power lumbar adjustment on the six-way driver’s seat. Another improvement inside is the upgrade from an 8.0- or 9.0-inch infotainment display to a 12.3-inch touchscreen on all but the base trim and the infotainment now supports wireless Android Auto . A sunglasses cubby now appears overhead as standard, and the SL is upgraded with a wireless phone charger, the Intelligent Around View Monitor (more on that shortly), and a standard power-operated four-way passenger seat.

Safer And More Practical Than Ever

Like the steering wheel, another improvement comes from customer feedback: the Crew Cab long-wheelbase model, which boasts a six-foot bed, is now available on all trims. In addition, while no changes have been announced for the 310-horsepower/281-lb-ft 3.8-liter V6, maximum towing capacity has increased by roughly 500 pounds across the range. The aforementioned Intelligent Around View 360-degree camera now works at speeds of up to 12 mph for more confidence when off-roading, and all trims now get lane departure warning, a blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, high beam assist, and intelligent cruise control.

Finally, the SL now boasts traffic sign recognition. Will this be enough to better the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger? And what about the segment leader, the Toyota Tacoma? We’ll let you know once we drive it. Hopefully, 2025 pricing hasn’t changed too much; for 2024, the Frontier started at $30,510 in King Cab S 4×2 guise and $44,680 for the top-tier Frontier Crew Cab Hardbody Edition, excluding the $1,335 destination charge.
