One-Off Maserati MC20 Tributo Modenese Celebrates Motor Valley

Key Takeaways

  • Maserati teases MC20 Tributo Modenese, a special one-off model for Monterey Car Week
  • The colors and name of the special edition pay tribute to Modena.
  • Maserati also plans to unveil a track-biased MC20 edition inspired by the GT2 and MCXtrema.

We’re fast approaching Monterey Car Week 2024, and in the days leading up to the mid-August event, Maserati is building anticipation with several special-edition reveals, the latest of which pays tribute to the region in which Maserati is headquartered: Modena. Very little information on the MC20 Tributo Modenese has been revealed besides that it’s a one-off, and we have no images of the cabin, but more will be revealed on the lawns of Pebble Beach.

At the front of the special edition, the famous Trident badge appears in yellow, a color that is repeated with stripes across the front wings, down the side profile and around the wheels, wrapping around the rear fascia. Yellow also appears on the rear and side badges and the brake calipers, which hide behind black wheels. An ombré finish separates the oversized Trident in blue at the front from the black roof and front arches. Blue and yellow are the colors of the Modena flag, which looks like a Ukrainian flag turned on its side.

Just A Taste Of What’s To Come

The new one-off is only a hint of how heavily the MC20 can be enhanced, and the reveal of this special edition only whets our appetites for what’s to come between August 9-18. The Italian automaker will present the Tributo Modenese alongside a special edition of the MC12 hypercar as Maserati launches its Classiche department in North America. This will keep classic Maseratis on the roads for years to come, but we’re more interested in a brand-new offering that will be unveiled during Car Week.

What is Maserati working on? We have two strong possibilities…

Teased less than a week ago, Maserati has revealed plans for a special-edition MC20 with Maserati GT2 inspiration. This appears to be an even more invigorating take on the existing MC20, and it may use elements of the MCXtrema track-only supercar. If it shares this monster’s powertrain tune, we can expect up to 730 horsepower, but Maserati has made it clear that this will not sacrifice the comforts of roadgoing cars.

A Full Lineup

The first customer MCXtrema will be delivered at Laguna Seca Raceway, and it will also be displayed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, which should help make it easier to spot the similarities between it and this mysterious new MC20 variant. Showgoers will also get to hear the 730-hp engine for the first time. Regular cars will be on show, too; the marque’s entire electric portfolio of Folgore models will appear – GranTurismo Folgore, GranCabrio Folgore, and Grecale Folgore – along with the GranCabrio Trofeo and the drop-top MC20 Cielo, which debuted at The Quail two years ago. In addition, the MC20 Icona Special Series will be there to ogle, so there’s something for everyone, whether you like EVs, specially customized special editions, or track-focused supercars.
