Tesla Really Wants You To Try Full Self-Driving

Key Takeaways

  • Tesla is offering a bundle with FSD, Supercharging, and premium connectivity for $5000 for three years.
  • This comes as the price of FSD continues to drop from a high of $15,000.
  • Whether the bundle is a deal for you depends on your charging habits – heavy Supercharger users may benefit most from this offer.

Tesla is taking a fresh approach to getting its customers to give Full Self-Driving (FSD) a try. Instead of making it a pricey standalone option, it’s now bundling it in with other services.

Tesla

Tesla, Inc. is an American electric vehicle manufacturer largely attributed to driving the EV revolution. Through the Model S and subsequent products, Tesla has innovated and challenged industry conventions on numerous fronts, including over-the-air updates, self-driving technology, and automotive construction methods. Tesla is considered the world’s most valuable car brand as of 2023, and the Model Y the world’s best-selling car in the same year, but the brand’s greatest achievement is arguably the Supercharger network of EV charging stations.

The Price Of Full Self-Driving Keeps Coming Down

While some may be nervous about using FSD due to concerns about its safety, even those who are all-in may not be able to afford the cost. It’s a pricey feature that at one point cost $15,000. That price started coming down last year so it’s now down to only $8,000.

It’s also available as a monthly subscription that has also come down in price. It started out at $199 a month and is now just $99 a month. This new bundled deal is yet one more way to get people to give it a try, though it’s not as cheap as simply doing FSD by itself.

Is It Really A Deal?

The new bundle gives you three years of FSD, free Supercharging, and premium connectivity for $5000. According to Electrek who crunched the numbers, whether it’s a deal or not is going to depend a lot on how you charge your vehicle.

FSD (Supervised) v12.3.5 uses a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips for a more human-like driving experience.

Most people tend to charge their EV at home at the end of the day. Plug it in overnight and it’s ready to go by morning. While there may be times when you need to charge on the road, it’s usually not all the time. Unless you make heavy use of that supercharging, it might not work out. If however, you’re a road warrior who constantly finds yourself at a Tesla Supercharger, then this might be the way to go if you want to drive FSD.
