The First Electric Cadillac Escalade Ever Will Be Very Expensive

A couple of months ago, we heard rumors of the expected price tag to be attached to the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ, with the cheapest one said to carry a base MSRP of $129,990, which lines up with the current Cadillac webpage for the IQ (official pricing and detailed specifications are still not yet available, however). That’s a substantial premium over the gas-powered Escalade, which for the 2024 model year starts at a much more palatable $81,895, but the example that bears VIN 001 will make all of these luxury SUVs look cheap.

The whole premise of electric vehicles is that they’re meant to be a step toward reducing carbon emissions, thereby cleaning the atmosphere and helping to save the planet, but the first customer-bound Escalade IQ to come off the production line will take those superhero duties particularly seriously. Cadillac has collaborated with Barrett-Jackson so that it can auction this luxurious EV for as high a price as possible, and both parties have agreed to donate every cent of the hammer price to the Detroit Children’s Fund.

More Range Than Previously Expected

Cadillac didn’t reveal much more than we already knew, but it did say that the 200+ kWh battery pack is capable of providing up to 460 miles of range, 10 miles more than previously expected. This estimate has not yet been certified by the EPA, but with this auction, Cadillac is ready to put its new EV in customer hands, and that suggests more information is coming soon; as gracious as the donation is, it’s also the right sort of publicity stunt. The Escalade IQ is expected to be available in “late 2024,” which we’re effectively on the brink of.

The model shown in the solitary image provided is a Sport 2 model painted in Black Raven, one of 11 color combinations available for the SUV. Under the skin, the dual-motor AWD powertrain delivers an estimated 750 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque, which Cadillac expects to result in a 0-60 mph time of “under 5 seconds.” See what we mean about the lack of detailed information? A full launch is surely around the corner.

There’s An Even Bigger Electric Escalade Coming

Last month, Cadillac confirmed that an even larger version of Escalade IQ is coming soon, one with space for people who are more likely to use the third row regularly. CarBuzz predicted this model back in November 2021, when we discovered a trademark for its likely name, Escalade IQL. Cadillac has also shown several other electric vehicles lately, including the Celestiq, the Optiq, and the Vistiq.

The automaker has also already launched the Lyriq, and its future is likely to be even more electric in the days to come. The glorious but short-lived Blackwing is no longer available besides as a crate engine, and GM Chief Executive Engineer Brandon Vivian recently said that the marque is “really focused on being the tip of the spear for General Motors on electric [cars].” This first-ever retail Escalade IQ represents the start of an all-electric era, but what is that worth? Your valuations in the comments below, please, and don’t forget about the kids.
