The Most Powerful Honda Civic Hatchback Ever Is Also The Most Expensive

Earlier this month, Honda announced pricing for the 2025 Civic Type R had increased, and unfortunately, the same fate has befallen the 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback. The CTR went up by $800, representing an increase of $2,700 since it went on sale in 2022, but the Civic Hatchback’s pricing is increasing by nearly as much in a single model year. With the loss of the entry-level LX trim, pricing has effectively increased by $2,500.

The Hatchback is usually pricier than the Civic Sedan, but this increase means that, while the 2024 model had a starting MSRP of $24,950 and cost no more than $31,450, the floor and ceiling of the 2025 model’s price range are now $27,450 and $32,950, respectively.

All pricing listed in this article excludes Honda’s destination charge of
$1,095

There’s A Powerful New Hybrid

The trim lineup has been shuffled slightly, and for the 2025 Honda Civic range, the Japanese automaker has created the most powerful non-Type R version of the Civic to date – a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors that deliver a total output of 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. As a result, the outgoing 1.5-liter turbocharged motor is now only available in the Civic Si.

The cheapest Civic Hatch, however, makes do without the electric motors, and as a result, only 150 hp is available. Sadly, all non-Si/Type R Civics power the front wheels through a CVT, with no other options on offer. Honda predicts that 40% of Civic Hatchback sales will feature the electrified powertrain, and other automakers are pushing in this direction, too; the Toyota Camry is now exclusively available as a hybrid.

How Honda Compares To Toyota

The Toyota Corolla was mildly updated for 2025 in May, and it arrived with a base price of $23,505 for the entry-level SE, $24,505 for the Nightshade, and $26,805 for the XSE. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter four-pot sending 169hp/151 lb-ft to the front wheels, also via a CVT. Like the Civic, the destination fee is $1,095, but unlike the Civic, these prices are all unchanged from 2024, with the exception of the Nightshade, which got a whole $150 more expensive. What about the Corolla Hybrid, you ask?

As of this writing, the 2024 model is still the only electrified Corolla on the Toyota USA configurator, and it’s only available as a sedan. Still, it’s worth mentioning that this starts at $23,500 for the LE and tops out at $27,250 for the XLE (no XSE trim exists for the Corolla Hybrid). The same destination fees apply.
