BMW 2 Series Coupe Rivals M2 Thanks To German Tuner

Manhart takes the BMW 2 Series to another level with its MH2 450 aftermarket package. Based on the top-spec M240i, the German tuning firm took nearly three years to present real-life images of its product, but we’ll give it a pass as the result doesn’t look too shabby – nor does it lack oomph, especially when compared to the full-phat BMW M2.

Still powered by the uber-reliable B58 inline-six mill, Manhart employs its in-house developed MHtronik powerbox to squeeze up to 434 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque out of the turbocharged engine, a big jump from the newly refreshed M240i’s 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. While still short of the M2’s 473 hp, Manhart can increase the MH2 450’s power output further through Stage 2 and Stage 3 upgrades upon request, trumping the smallest BMW M sports coupe. This also isn’t the most powerful off-the-shelf M240i tune we’ve seen so far – that distinction goes to G-Power with its 520-hp monster 2er (custom tuners can obviously extract much more).

Chassis Upgrades To Handle All That Power

For a more sonorous experience, Manhart throws in four 100mm tailpipes with valve control and Grail stainless steel slip-on exhaust. The MH2 450’s brakes are unchanged from the factory, though Manhart can upgrade them if the client wants to. Meanwhile, the tuning company is offering two options for suspension: H&R lowering springs or KW Variant 4 coilovers, both promising better sporty handling to go with the lowered height.

To complement the lower stance, the MH2 450 comes with a set of Concave One 20-inch rims with thicker rear rubber. They are finished in glossy white in this example, which goes with the overall exterior Manhart decal set that’s predominantly black, white, gray, and red. However, customers can opt for a different color should they wish.

Loud Exterior, Subtle Interior

Under the loud graphics, Manhart has installed a full body kit on the 240i, which includes front spoiler, side sill attachments, a rear diffuser, and a rear spoiler. Even better, all these parts are made out of carbon fiber, which should affect the upgraded model’s overall weight.

In contrast to the loud exterior styling, the MH2 450 has a relatively restrained cabin, with Manhart only upgrading the steering wheel with new leather and Alcantara trim, black-lacquered spokes, and carbon fiber paddle shifters. The company didn’t disclose its pricing for the MH2 450 tuning package.
