Lamborghini Temerario Can’t Match The Huracan In One Important Area

The Lamborghini Huracán is no more. The Italian supercar brand has replaced it with the new Temerario, the ‘entry-level’ performance offering that brings the baby Lambo legacy into an electrified future. While the power figures will have gearheads salivating, many are mourning the loss of the naturally aspirated V10 – and the noise that came with it. And thanks to a new spy video, it would seem they have good reason to. While the new V8 sounds delightful, it’s missing the je n’sais quoi of its predecessor.

Spied testing on the Nürburgring, the Temerario has a decidedly anonymous-sounding V8. Due to stricter emissions legislation (particularly in Europe), downsized and turbocharged V8s are more muted than they once were, and it is evident here. While it could never be described as dull or uninspiring, the baby Lambo’s bellow has been toned down.

Enthusiasts Will Miss The V10 For One Important Reason

Racing around the Green Hell, the muted exhaust note could be mistaken for something German, like a prestigious performance car. Of course, there’s a chance that the new Temerario will have a more evocative-sounding exhaust note up close and at full throttle, but customers will miss the visceral noise of the old ten-cylinder engine.

While it’s a shame, the combustion faithful can, at least, be thankful that the Temerario gains motivation from a gas-powered engine. Electrification has swept across all segments, including the supercar and hypercar classes. As such, certain sacrifices need to be made. But Lamborghini has done its best to make the new motor a thrilling one.

Smaller V8 Packs An Almighty Punch

The 4.0-liter V8 may be smaller than the outgoing 5.2-liter V10 but, thanks to the advent of three electric motors, the Temerario is significantly more powerful. It produces a total of 908 horsepower, compared to the outgoing model’s maximum output of 631 hp. What’s more, the new V8 revs to a dizzying 10,000 rpm, which is remarkable for any engine, let alone one with eight cylinders. A plug-in hybrid system means the Temerario can be operated on electric power alone, further reducing emissions and fuel usage.

The performance data tells a positive story, too. 0-62 mph is dispatched in a less than 2.7 seconds, while the top speed exceeds the 210 mph mark. While all of these improvements are welcomed, a Lamborghini has always been about more than on-paper figures. A thrilling noise – one that sends a chill down your spine – has always been a part of the package and, based on this early sample, it seems that the new model does trail its predecessor in some aspects. That being said, we expect the aftermarket scene will cater to those looking for more noise.
