Alfa Romeo Lineup Loses All Trims In Favor Of Core Models For 2025

Alfa Romeo recently announced MY2025 updates for the Tonale crossover, Giulia sedan, and Stelvio SUV model lines. While revisions for the three-car lineup are minor, the Italian brand has made an interesting change for 2025 – gone are the traditional trim levels, with customers now offered just a single ‘core’ version.

Previously, buyers could opt for the Sprint, Ti, and Veloce grades for the aforementioned models. However, for MY2025, a single core model will be available. This means that customers can now specify the vehicles to their liking, with available options and packages. The Tonale will be offered with Veloce, Active Assist, Premium packages, and additional options.

Just A Single ‘Core’ Model To Choose From

Elsewhere, the larger Stelvio will receive the same packages, along with the Premium Interior and Sound packages. This will also be made available on the Giulia sports sedan. Alfa Romeo hasn’t gone into detail regarding the change, but notes that the additional options will make “for simplified ordering.” While it makes sense to simplify the ordering process for customers, this move could make things more complex for customers.

Whereas the phased-out trims provided buyers with different equipment levels and price points, prospective Alfa buyers may now find it more confusing to specify vehicles to meet their needs and budgets. Then again, customers may appreciate the ability to mix and match equipment and specify only the features they want and need. Quite often, buyers have to specify expensive packages that include features they don’t ever use.

Alfa Sales Trail Traditional German Rivals

CarBuzz has contacted Alfa Romeo for additional information regarding this range-wide change and will update the article once we receive a reply. It’s worth noting that Alfa’s sales figures leave a lot to be desired. In Q2 2024, the Italian premium brand sold a combined total of 2,492 units, which is abysmal. The strongest-performing vehicle was the Stelvio, with 949 examples. To put that into perspective, BMW sold 18,101 units of the X3 during the same period, highlighting Alfa’s poor sales.

Alfa had hoped that the $43,845 Tonale would boost local sales, but this has yet to happen. Between April and the end of June, a mere 887 units left dealership floors across America – not exactly a mass-market success. Perhaps the automaker will have more success with the Junior, which may reach the American market after all. As for the rest of the changes, the Giulia, Tonale, and Stelvio are now available as the limited Tributo Italiano special edition, which adds several additional luxuries, and sporty exterior finishes, such as red-painted brake calipers. The Stelvio and Giulia can now also be painted in Verde Fangio paintwork.
