Heritage Customs Reimagines The Defender 90 With Mediterranean Inspiration

Do you ever sit around and think about all the ways you could potentially modify a Land Rover? Heritage Customs certainly does, and they’ve got plenty of stylish tricks up their sleeves, including their latest example, which takes inspiration from Cyprus, the third-most populous island situated in the Mediterranean.

Driven: 2024 Land Rover Defender 90 Is A Luxury SUV That Loves To Get Dirty

This is why we think the smallest Defender is the one to get.

An exclusive endeavor, this vehicle, dubbed The Spirit of Cyprus Valiance Convertible and based on a Defender 90, was built specifically for a client, but Heritage Customs will build one for you, as well. Available in limited numbers to maintain that exclusive profile, each vehicle’s buyer can personalize every aspect of the build by working with the brand’s designer and co-founder, Niels van Roji.

Island Flair

This particular Defender’s process began with a convertible conversion before the high contrast paint treatment was applied. The deep blue metallic color used on the upper portion of the body was chosen to represent the rich blue sky of Cyprus, while the majority of the exterior is treated to white, inspired by the aged architecture found on the island. A blue soft top was included to flow with the blue paint and provide some cover for occupants on those days when a convertible’s attributes can’t be exploited.

The simple style of the wheels might look like standard steel versions, but these 20-inch wheels are actually forged Heritage Customs’ rollers with all terrain tires. To carry on the duo-tone theme, the wheel faces are finished in the same white, and the inner lips in the same sparkling blue metallic to maintain the look Heritage and its client were after. And, of course, there’s a fifth matching wheel secured to the rear.

Details Galore

Heritage Customs’ attention to detail carries over to the interior, where a mix of blue and white leather is used throughout the space, including reupholstering the dash, steering wheel, door cards, seating, and more. Where swatches of blue are used, intricate white stitching supports the theme, and, similarly, any patches of white leather are held together with blue stitching. It’s the Defender 90 interior completely reimagined using the highest quality materials for a custom, luxury feel.

Turn Your Land Rover Defender 90 Into A Convertible For $90,000

Heritage Customs wants $90k and three months to build the Valiance Convertible.

“We are thrilled to unveil this lovely Valiance Convertible Spirit of Cyprus. Our goal was to create a vehicle that encapsulates the beauty, culture, and spirit of the island, while staying true to the rugged heritage of the Defender. The result is a sophisticated yet adventurous vehicle, perfect for this client, who seeked uniqueness and elegance in their driving experience.” -Niels van Roij, co-founder and designer of Heritage Customs

Niels van Roji isn’t one to shy away from an outside-the-box challenge, having been the designer behind the wild Rolls-Royce Wraith wagon conversion from a handful of years ago. The Heritage Customs’ Spirit of Cyprus Valiance Convertible is yet another eye-catching creation added to their ever-growing resume. The team is also responsible for transforming the Defender 130 SUV into what they call a Defender Valiance pickup truck, which effectively eliminates the rear, upper portion of the vehicle, and you’re left with a functional truck bed. If it’s something different you’re after, and your pockets are deep enough, Heritage Customs might be for you.
