We are no strangers to peculiar builds here at CarBuzz. From AMG coupe built from a Honda Civic to an alien-looking Mazda3 Sedan, we have probably seen all the car mod atrocities in the automotive world. But, here we are, right in the presence of a GT-R SUV that was originally – you have to be sitting down for this – a Nissan Murano.

Aptly nicknamed the Murano GT-R, this creation is fan-made by a Nissan GT-R enthusiast in Thailand. The original car was a first-generation Murano SUV, heavily modified to look like the 2016 R35 GT-R. Photos from its latest modification surfaced on Facebook, showing the one-off getting a custom quad-pipe exhaust system from the Southeast Asian country’s K1 Racing.
Weird Proportions, But Commendable Effort
At the front, the Murano GT-R looks unassuming, with real GT-R headlights used to decorate the fascia. But things escalate quickly when you get to the sides. Almost every panel of the original Murano has been replaced, while the rear end appears extended, leaving an uneasy shape. It’s important to note the build retains high ground clearance and chunky tires, adding to the alienating proportions.

Nissan Murano Generations: Everything You Need To Know In One Place
For more than two decades, the Nissan Murano has been powered by a V6 engine – until now. What else has changed over its lifespan?
The rear part also uses the four iconic GT-R round taillights, though the double stack of wings and spoiler do add a wild take on an otherwise humble SUV underneath. Obviously, the build is unfinished at this point, so we’re sure there will be more modifications coming, including a fresh swath of paint. We commend the creativity (and bravery) on this one, and we wish we could see the final build.
Mystery Under The Hood But At Least It Sounds Great
We’re unsure what powers this Murano GT-R, but if you’re curious how that four-pronged exit sounds, the video below should give you a treat. It does mimic the twin-turbo V6 note of the R35, so we won’t be surprised if it also got an engine swap. It’s theoretically possible, considering that the original first-generation Murano was powered by a 3.5-liter VQ35DE V6.

Happy 18th, Nissan GT-R. Here’s to celebrating the thousands of curbs you’ve clobbered, stopwatches you broke, and 911 Turbos you humiliated.
The Nissan GT-R, as we know it, is dead, and right now, the waiting game for its next major iteration has already begun. Nissan has promised great things with the next Godzilla, but we figure a high-riding SUV version isn’t one of them.
