Porsche will give most of its models a pretty big technology update for 2026 that should make them even more connected than they already are. The company’s Porsche Communication Management (PCM), which is German execu-speak for infotainment system, will get new hardware to enable faster operation and even more functionality, which will also include a built-in app store that’ll allow owners to download streaming services, navigation features, and more to their cars. Taking after the PCM already included in the new-for-2024 Macan Electric, the new infotainment system will roll out to the 911, Taycan, Cayenne, and Panamera when the 2026 models arrive in June.

Faster Response And Greater Processing Power
Although the 2026 models’ PCM will appear the same, underneath that flat sheet of touchscreen glass will be greater computing power than the current setup. Porsche says the new hardware will improve performance – likely meaning less lag and improved touch response – as well as enable a few key updates. In addition to the existing Porsche Voice Pilot voice control function, the new PCM will integrate Amazon Alexa, meaning owners can control their connected devices right from the car. Alexa will be able to handle everything from opening garage doors and activating house lights to adding items to shopping lists, just like the smart assistant can do at home.
In addition to the embedded Amazon functionality, the new PCM will also get its own native app store to augment the existing version’s standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Porsche App Center already available on the Macan Electric offers downloadable versions of Spotify, Amazon Music, and other third-party applications, meaning users can log into their streaming and route planning services directly from the Porsche’s infotainment screen. There are also games and video streaming apps available, perfect for those who need to charge their Taycan and Macan Electric vehicles at public stations and want to pass the time more easily. The passenger display offered on the company’s four-doors would make such a setup particularly enticing.

The Sound System Gets An Update, Too
The new PCM will also integrate Dolby Atmos surround sound when equipped with Porsche’s optional Bose or Burmester premium audio systems. When listening to a source that supports Atmos, whether it be one of the App Center’s streaming services or your own digital media, the audio system envelops the occupants in sound, separating tracks into individual components that feel more immersive and interesting. Dolby Atmos digital sound processing can also upscale lesser-quality media, improving the experience even for Luddites.
The new PCM will require a cellular connection for many of its more technologically dense upgrades, but Porsche will provide access for free for 10 years. At that point, it’s possible the automaker will begin requiring a subscription fee, but that’ll be the second (or third) owner’s problem. Although the idea of subscription services is increasingly repellent to most modern car shoppers, we’re glad that Porsche is resisting the tempation to nickel-and-dime its well-heeled consumers – Mazda could learn a thing or two.
