GMC Sierra EV Gains Variety And Affordability

GM’s electric pickup trucks are finally getting cheaper, and leading the charge is GMC. The 2026 GMC Sierra will no longer have just one trim. In addition to the Denali, it’s getting a base Elevation trim, and an off-road-oriented AT4 trim. It’s also getting three different battery options across those trims. So now customers will be able to find just the right Sierra EV, whether they’re on a budget, going off-road, looking for luxury, or need as much range as possible.

The New Trims And New Battery Option

Joining GMC’s battery offerings will be a new Standard Range option. The company offered no details on capacity or range, but it will fall below the Extended and Max Range options currently offered on the 2025 Sierra EV Denali. For reference, the Extended Range battery in the Denali has a range of 390 miles, and the Max Range is rated for 460 miles. The different battery packs also come with different pricing and towing capacities. We’ll get to the pricing later, but for towing, the Standard Range trucks will have a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds. The Extended Range trucks will have either 12,300 (AT4) pounds of towing capacity, or 12,500 (Denali). The Max Range trucks end up with less capacity at 10,200 pounds, likely due to the additional battery weight.

The Elevation trim is where the Sierra EV line starts now. It doesn’t look drastically different from the outside from other Sierras except for its red GMC badge and standard 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior is basically the same as the others, too, sporting a standard 16.8-inch infotainment screen and 11-inch instrument screen. Available as options are the MidGate, Super Cruise, 22-inch wheels, 7.2-kW off-board power, and seat ventilation. GMC will only offer the Standard and Extended Range batteries on the Elevation.

The AT4 trim is more interesting. It gets a unique front fascia with more black trim and prominent red tow hooks. The truck sits on fixed, steel spring suspension, but is lifted by 2 inches compared to the other Sierra EVs and gets 35-inch all-terrain tires. Other off-road upgrades include four-wheel-steering, CrabWalk, and skid plates. GMC includes Super Cruise and a head-up display as standard, while the MidGate, 10.2-kW off-board power, and glass roof are all options. The AT4 will be available with just the Extended and Max Range battery packs, and with the added ride height and large tires, it will probably get less range than other Sierra EVs.

We should also touch on the Denali. It hasn’t really changed except for getting additional colors, but the battery offerings expanded. It will also be available with the Standard Range battery, which means that a Denali with that battery will actually be one of the more affordable Sierra EV options.

It’s Way Cheaper

With new trims and a smaller battery option, the base price for the Sierra EV line has dropped substantially. The base Elevation with Standard Range battery starts at $62,400, or $64,495 when adding the $2,095 destination charge. The next most affordable Sierra EV is the Standard Range Denali, which slides in right around $70,000. The Denali also occupies the most-expensive slot with the Denali Reserve Max Range, which comes in at an MSRP of $98,600, or $100,695 with destination.
