Clever Subaru Dealer Takes Pricing Notes From Tesla Amid Looming Tariffs

The United States will introduce a new 25 percent tariff on imported cars beginning April 2, and instead of panic and brace for the worst, this one New England Subaru dealership is taking a note out of the Tesla playbook when it comes to marketing their inventory. Tesla shows a marked-down, post-incentive price for the vehicles it sells on its website, with the option to see the full price before incentives under a button.

You can now save a bit on the price of a new Subaru Forester or another model before the tariffs, though the math doesn’t exactly add up at first.

Subaru

Subaru is the car making division of the Japanese transport company, Subaru Corporation, and it’s one of the largest in the world. It was founded in 1953, preceded by the Nakajima Aircraft Company, and today manufactures vehicles known for their boxer engines, symmetrical all-wheel drive systems, and pedigreed history.

Naturally, The Best Deals Are On The Older 2024 Models

Suburban Subaru located in Vernon, Connecticut is now advertising multiple pre-tariff savings offers, mostly on its outgoing 2024 model year inventory. The dealer’s slogan, after all, is “Subarus cost less in Vernon,” and that appears to be true if they hold up their online offers.

Audi Is Going To Raise Prices, It Just Doesn’t Know By How Much

The German automaker is reportedly looking for the “sweet spot.”

It’s not exactly clear how the savings are being calculated, as the pricing difference, while offering some clear savings, does not account for the full amount of the inflated price which should be an additional 25 percent of the current MSRP on top.

You can apparently save $1,497 on a 2024 WRX sedan, $1,997 on a 2024 Forester Wilderness SUV, and $2,497 on an Impreza RS hatch, all if you act before April 2, that is. The dealer was reportedly offering up to nearly $4,000 off of some models, but those inventory pages no longer exist, so the marketing method may be working in real-time.

Automakers That Will Be Impacted By President Trump’s Tariff Against Mexico And Canada

With impending 25% tariffs against goods manufactured in the USA’s neighboring states, these are the automakers that would be most impacted.

Our Take

The White House has said the 25 percent tariff on imported cars, plus additional tariffs on imported parts and materials that go into auto manufacturing, will be permanent during the current administration, which could mean four years of inflated pricing, at least.

This may just be a clever marketing move on behalf of Suburban Subaru, but with so much uncertainty surrounding how much impact the tariffs may have, it’s certainly good to know that not all dealers are marking prices up in anticipation of higher prices to extract a few extra dollars from buyers.
