Van life has become incredibly popular in recent years, fueled by endless Instagram posts from beautiful, carefree millennials who seem to be living the dream while the rest of us are chained to a boring 9-5, looking on enviously.

But if cramming your entire world into a DIY-converted Ford Transit feels a little too hobo-ish for your sophisticated tastes and doesn’t make you feel remotely envious, maybe this Motor Coach Riviera 38RB could convince you to get out on the road.
Luxury on Wheels
Created by America’s Thor, it’s a Class A motor home, the biggest kind on the market, and at 38 ft (11.6 m) long, it’s absolutely enormous. Class A RVs tend to be built on commercial truck or bus chassis and fitted with massive diesel engines to haul you and your condo’s worth of furniture and white goods along – this 38RB has a gross vehicle weight of 32,000 lbs (14,500 kg).

Class A RVs like this are palatial compared with converted Transit-size Class B machines, or even the Class C types that are commonly seen in Europe, because the As are just too damn big. And too expensive for most people’s tastes.
Price Tag Fit for a King (or Queen)
Thor’s website says builds start at a staggering $367,500, but even at $260,000, the price of this 2024 model at Leo’s Vacation Center in Maryland, you have to be seriously wealthy to afford one. Not that it’s the most expensive RV we’ve come across. That honor goes to the $1.4 million Brabus Big Boy 1200.
But these motor homes are even more luxurious than the house you could buy for the same money. This six-berth one has three slide-out sections to expand the living area, dual 68-inch sofas, a king bed (tiltable for V viewing), stacked washer-dryer combo and not one, but two bathrooms.

It also has two more TVs, including one on the exterior for outdoor movie nights, and even a fireplace. The decor is very bland, but it’s probably perfect for the rich, older Americans who we imagine buy these things.
I did get to stay in something like this once a few years back when Jaguar invited me and my family to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but I didn’t get to drive it. Sure, it would certainly be a handful on UK roads and is definitely built for the wide-open spaces of the US, where it can stretch its legs without worrying about getting stuck in traffic or accidentally scraping a mailbox.
