Following the Mazda 6e, the brand has a new electric crossover. Mazda has only just started its teaser campaign for the new model in China, but we’ve spotted it already on the road getting ready for prime time.
Mazda
Mazda is a Japanese automaker founded in 1920 as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co and only started producing vehicles in 1931 when it made the Mazda-Go auto rickshaw. The Japanese automaker’s first official car arrived in May 1960 when the Mazda R360 launched, starting Mazda as we know it today, although the Mazda name was only adopted in 1984. Mazda has a rich history in motorsport, including the honor of being the only manufacturer to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a car not powered by a reciprocating engine.

Well, we’ve sort of spotted it. The CarBuzz spy photographers captured the electric CX crossover out and testing. It was wearing serious camouflage, but combine these photos with what we know about Mazda’s styling and what we know about the CX-6e already, and we have a great idea as to what it will look like.
EZ-60 Will Use Changan Electric Platform
The new crossover, which we’re expecting to be named CX-6e but is called the EZ-60 in China, will join the 6e, or EZ-6, in markets around the world. Like the sedan, it is expected to be based on a model from its joint venture with Chinese automaker Changan.
In this case, it will be based on that company’s EPA1 platform, which is also used for the Deepal S07, which is already on sale in Asia and Australia.

Mazda EZ-6 Is A $20k EV Range Extender With 800 Miles Of Range
Available as a hybrid or an EV, this sedan has morphed to become a more practical liftback, and it looks fantastic.
This new crossover’s styling is inspired by the Arata concept, a model it showed off at the Beijing auto show in 2024. That sleek concept was all sharp lines and matte surfaces, but it also didn’t stray too far from the typical modern Mazda, inside or out.
For the production car, despite the wrap, we can see that Mazda has made some big changes. The surfaces of the new model are less flat, with more form. The look is less concept car and more actual car. Surfaces that are too flat create a strange effect where the vehicle appears to be a render rather than a real car. It’s the reason the Cybertruck can look so strange.
Prototype Keeps Camera Mirrors And Massive Blind Spots
Some concept car details, though, are maintained, like the ultra-thin camera mirrors and razor-sharp headlights. The rear pillars seem to be smaller than the whoppers of the concept, but still large enough to significantly cut into rear visibility. The whole rear of the car looks more like a Cadillac electric model than a Mazda.
While this model is expected to go on sale in 2026, it will not be alone in the brand’s line for long. Another new EV, the global electric model Mazda will build on its own platform, is set to arrive in 2027.

The sales numbers show that Mazda’s first EV is not doing so well.
The EZ-6 or 6e is offered with an all-electric drive system. It is also available with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder that operates as a range-extended electric vehicle. Fully electric models are estimated to deliver 298 miles of WLTP range with a 68.8 kWh pack or 343 with an 80 kWh pack. Figures for the CX variant are likely to be 15-20 percent lower.
