For the past five-plus years, Hyundai has been offering one of the best complimentary maintenance programs in the market. Any vehicle purchased after February 2020 gets its oil and oil filter changes, tire rotations, and Multi-Point Inspections covered for free by the automaker, though it’s a little more limited for newer 2025 model year cars and SUVs.
However, that all sounds like it’s changing soon, so if you had your eye on a Tucson or Elantra, you may want to act quickly.
Hyundai
Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967 by Chung Ju-yung, 20 years after the birth of the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company. The automotive marque’s first model was the Cortina, birthed with the help of Ford in 1968, while its first self-developed car arrived the year after as the Pony. Since then, the company has found success with affordable cars and has consistently become known for reliability and value. Nowadays, its ventures vary from combustion, hybrid, all-electric, and hydrogen mobility solutions to robotics.

Costs Are Too High, Says Hyundai
A corporate bulletin from somewhere high up in Hyundai was reportedly sent out to U.S. dealers sometime last week informing them that the so-called Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance program was coming to an end for the 2026 model year.
Hyundai’s reasoning for terminating the nice program was that “The cost of the program grew to unsupportable levels. The HCM Program has provided coverage for Hyundai model years 2020 through 2025. As the program has matured, Hyundai has determined a new approach is necessary and will not be offering the HCM Program for model year 2026 and beyond.”

It’s not clear if this change will include a similar maintenance program offered by Genesis. It’s also unclear if this was a previously made decision or one that has been made in light of new tariffs.
New Hyundai Pre-Paid Maintenance Programs
Hyundai will now reportedly offer a new Service Drive Pre-Paid Maintenance Program that customers can pay for, instead. The “Pre-Paid Basic” plan just covers oil changes and tire rotations at the recommended intervals, while a “Pre-Paid Schedule” plan covers all regular scheduled maintenance mentioned in the vehicle’s owner’s manual, so likely oil filters and inspections, as well.

The programs can span up to eight years of ownership, but specific pricing will likely only follow once the change takes effect. Once you add up all the math, this will likely be cheaper than not having a plan and individually scheduling your own maintenance, unless you know a guy, but it’s probably math worth doing if you’re shopping for a 2026 model year Hyundai or newer down the road.
