Dodge Demon 170 Bids Top Out At $121,000 But Sellers Still Think It’s 2023

  • Low-mileage Dodge Demon 170s were once selling for upwards of $200,000.
  • Bidding on these two Demons topped out at just over $120,000.
  • In perfect conditions, this beast can hit 60 (96 km/h) in under 2 seconds.

The Challenger SRT Demon 170 is one of the craziest American performance cars ever created, and following the death of the Challenger from Dodge’s lineup, it has all the right ingredients to be a valuable collector’s car in the decades to come. But recent auction results suggest the market might be cooling off quicker than its supercharged V8 ever could.

At least two low-mileage Demon 170s have failed to meet reserve prices at online auctions in recent weeks. That’s a sharp contrast to the feverish demand seen in 2023 or even 2024, when these factory-built drag monsters were fetching small fortunes.

The most recent example, finished in eye-searing TorRed, looked every bit the collector-grade showpiece. With only 150 miles (241 km) on the odometer and a clean Carfax, it’s about as close to new as you’ll find on the used market. Still, despite its showroom-fresh condition, it couldn’t quite make the sale.

Rare Doesn’t Always Mean Sold

Dodge capped production of the flagship model to just 3,300 units, with 3,000 destined for the US. This Demon 170 is number 2529, and bidding on it reached $120,500 on Cars & Bids earlier this week. However, that was not enough to hit the unspecified reserve, and it failed to sell. It had an MSRP of $123,651 with destination included.

A few weeks earlier, another Demon was offered for auction through Cars & Bids. It was number 2080 and painted in Pitch-Black with just 800 miles (1,287 km) under its belt. Despite attracting plenty of interest, bidding on it topped out at $121,000. That wasn’t enough to meet the seller’s reserve, despite the car’s MSRP (including destination) sitting at $120,351.

The Collector Market Hits the Brakes

Prices across the collector car market have generally cooled off since their pandemic-era peak. Sellers hoping to cash out on the 170’s hype may have missed the most lucrative window. In 2024 alone, Cars & Bids sold two Demons. The most expensive fetched $174,000 with 20 miles on the clock, while another driven just 20 miles traded hands for $165,000.

There were also two other listings that looked promising, one bid up to $173,000, and another to $146,000, but neither of those met reserve, either.

It’s a reminder that even the most outrageous cars don’t always defy market trends. The Demon 170 might still be a future classic, but in the present, buyers seem less eager to pay top dollar just for the bragging rights.
