The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is only heading into its third year on the market, but apparently, the company feels it’s time to give it a refresh. It’s a pretty significant one from the outside, too, with major changes to lighting and trim. Hyundai says the changes are based on the RN22e concept, particularly the new N Line trim. But even more than that, the now-confirmed Ioniq 6 N, will be even closer to the concept.
Hyundai’s Only Talking About Styling For Now
As is Hyundai’s way, the company hasn’t said a word about feature content or powertrain specifications for its new Ioniq 6s. Instead, it only revealed details about the looks. There’s plenty to talk about with the looks, though. All Ioniq 6s now feature headlights with slim DRL housings higher up and main beams located lower in a fashion that visually integrates them with the traditional grille area. Combined with a reworked hood and fenders, the new Ioniq 6 looks lower and meaner.
Along the side, a new contrast panel provides a smoother line from the front bumper to the rear. Then, at the back, Hyundai has done away with the unusual rear spoiler. Instead, the edge of the trunk has been turned into more of a ducktail shape to still provide improved aerodynamics without such an odd-looking bit of bodywork. Both cars feature side-view cameras instead of mirrors, but those likely won’t be offered in the US. The new N Line is very similar to the standard car, but receives new front and rear fascia. The front has the biggest change with silver-colored wing-like dividers in the intake section. It also gets unique wheels and badging.
While the exterior receives major changes, the interior is mostly the same. The steering wheel now features three spokes instead of two, though it still retains the same basic hub and controls. Hyundai also made the climate control button display larger, which will hopefully make it easier to use. As for the center console, it’s mostly the same, but Hyundai rearranged the parts inside. The power window switches have been moved farther forward, and they’re on the left side of the console. The cupholders are on the right side, and the USB ports have moved from the console into the center stack just under the climate controls.
The Upcoming N Will Bring A Concept To Life
Tucked between the regular Ioniq 6 and the N Line is a look at the Ioniq 6. It’s not much, but it does show a few notable details. It has a large rear wing, though substantially more restrained than the RN22e’s. Much of the rear is painted black, blending everything below the rear spoiler line together. It doesn’t have a full-width tail light bar like the others. It also looks like Hyundai gave it a triangular third brake light at the top of the rear window, which has been a long-standing signature of the N cars. We’re eager to hear about the performance details, but imagine they will mirror the Ioniq 5 N. So expect dual motors making a peak of 641 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, e-LSD, and simulated gears all included in the 6 N. We don’t have too long to wait, either, as it will be revealed in July.
Aside from a shadowy teaser, no imagery of the Ioniq 6 N has been provided. Images of the RN22e concept in the gallery above are provided for reference.
