Tesla didn’t do well during the first three months of 2025, with its numbers showing a huge decline versus its performance in the same period last year. But that could change in Q2 as the more affordable version of the new Tesla Model Y, its most popular nameplate in America, has become available to order.
Previously available in Launch Series trim, which comes with everything as standard under $60,000, the Model Y Juniper is now available in Long Range AWD form. It starts at $48,990, which is $11,000 cheaper than the Launch Series, which sold for $59,990. Interestingly, the refreshed Model Y Juniper Long Range AWD is only $1,000 more expensive than the model it replaces. Of note, the prices mentioned here exclude the $7,500 federal tax credit.
Nearly Identical To The Launch Series

The Tesla Model Y Juniper Launch Series and the newly added Long Range AWD have nearly identical specs. Beyond the Launch Series badges, both have an EPA-estimated range of 327 miles and a top speed of 125 mph. However, the Launch Series, which has already reached the hands of its American owners, is quicker to 60 mph from a standstill. It can do so in 4.1 seconds, as opposed to the 4.6 seconds of the Long Range AWD.

Here are all the changes made to Tesla’s best-selling crossover.
However, the major difference between the two is the standard features that come with the vehicle. The Long Range AWD doesn’t come with the controversial Full Self-Driving feature and the acceleration boost. That means if you want SAE Level 2 autonomous capabilities with your Model Y Juniper, you need to shell out $8,000 to purchase it, or pay $99 monthly as a subscription.
More Model Y Trims Expected To Arrive
Of course, Tesla isn’t just done yet with its Model Y lineup. A more affordable Long Range RWD trim is expected, which should lower the entry point to the brand even further. At the other end of the spectrum, the quicker and more exciting Model Y Performance is also expected to join the lineup, with prototypes already being spotted on the road. The timeline for its arrival isn’t concrete just yet, though.

With a more affordable Model Y already out and about, and with reports of Tesla ramping up its production in Gigafactory Texas, we expect the automaker to bounce back from its disappointing performance. However, the issue isn’t only with the Model Y; the Model 3, despite being heavily revamped, hasn’t been selling as well as predicted, while the much-anticipated Cybertruck also falls into the same curse.
