2025 New York Auto Show: What to Expect

It’s April. In the automotive world, that means the New York Auto Show. It’s true that auto shows aren’t the bastion of debuts they once were, but 28 automakers are signed up for this year’s show. And a few of them will be pulling the covers off something new.

The show opens to the public on April 18, though you’ll start hearing about all the big reveals a couple of days prior. Media days begin on April 16, but we already have some idea of what to expect. And now, so do you.

Here’s a preview of the debuts taking place at this year’s New York Auto Show.

Hyundai Group is living large in New York, and Kia is at the top with three events planned. Details aren’t confirmed, but Kia tells us to expect electrified and naturally aspirated models ranging from a “sedan to SUV to something in between.” One is almost certainly the wagon version of the K4, while the EV4 will make its North American debut after its initial launch in February in South Korea. That’s two vehicles, neither of which is an SUV. So the third might be a facelifted Telluride. We’ve seen camouflaged prototypes running around, but at this point, the third vehicle remains a mystery.

A new Palisade is coming. Hyundai’s next-generation three-row SUV morphs into a boxier body to match the company’s current design language seen on the Santa Fe. As with the Kia EV4, the Palisade has already been revealed in South Korea. But New York will mark its North American debut, including any changes that might come for the US market.

Subaru Outback NYAS Teaser

The next-generation Outback is confirmed for a debut in New York. Don’t expect this to be the lifted station wagon you’ve known for decades, however. The above teaser image offers a glimpse of the upright body, but spy photos show a radically different Outback looking much more like a chunky crossover SUV. With the Legacy now gone, it seems Outback is leaving its sedan roots behind.

VW Tayron launched in the UK

The German brand is listed on the press docket for a presentation on April 16, but at this time it’s unclear what will be presented. It’s possible a streamlined version of the Tayron is headed for the US, something VW pointed towards last year. The Tayron got its start in China and would slot above the Tiguan; a VW spokesperson told Motor1 in October 2024 that a long-wheelbase Tiguan was coming, and its “sheet metal, powertrain options, and equipment set will differ markedly.”

Toyota GR Corolla Development Vehicle

Similar to Volkswagen, Toyota is listed on the auto show media list, but there’s been no clear mention of what might be in store. It could be something as simple as a special PR campaign for the new 4Runner, which Toyota announced on April 7. Something infinitely more interesting, however, would be the debut of a new Corolla GRMN, which the company is developing.

As with every auto show, surprise announcements are always a possibility. We’ll have boots on the ground to bring you some live updates from the show, so stay tuned to Motor1 for the latest news.
