The Polestar 3 finally hit the US toward the end of last year, and it seems to be giving the Swedish EV brand a real jump start in the sales department. This quarter, it moved 12,304 cars globally, a massive 76% over the 6,975 in the same quarter last year. Polestar doesn’t break down its sales by model, but it’s pretty clear the introduction of the model is a major contributor. Polestar’s Head of Sales in the US, Jordan Hofmann, confirmed as much to us in an interview.
Polestar
In 1996, a Swedish motorsport team called Flash Engineering was competing in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championships; this team was sold on and rebranded as Polestar Racing in 2005, and later ran a production car tuning division. In 2015, Volvo Cars acquired the Polestar brand and repositioned it as an electric car maker in 2017. Polestar produces EVs like the Polestar 2 sedan and Polestar 3 SUV that have some design cues from Volvo’s premium cars, but with more of a performance focus.

Polestar 3 Is Hotter Now Than When It Was Revealed
One of the surprising things Hofmann told us was that the Polestar 3 had more orders last month than ever before. Now you may be thinking, “But hasn’t this SUV only been on sale for a couple months?” You’re not wrong, but the company was receiving orders way back in October 2022 when the vehicle was first revealed. It apparently received a huge influx of orders with the reveal, but last month has exceeded even that. This seems like a good sign for the vehicle in the long term, since even after a couple of years, people are still interested.
Hofmann also noted that the Polestar 3 is really the “right vehicle for the right time,” as SUVs remain extremely popular in the US. The company is hoping to keep capitalizing on this with its next releases, the Polestar 4 and the Polestar 7. The former is a blend of hatchback and SUV, and the latter will be a new compact SUV, which will apparently be the successor to the Polestar 2. And the plan is for the 7 to come to the US market. Those aren’t the only models on the way from Polestar, though. The company also has the four-door Polestar 5, a fastback sedan of sorts, coming this year, which will likely sell in decent numbers. The Polestar 6 roadster will likely be an image builder and halo car, but will undoubtedly be a niche product.
Other Factors In Polestar’s Favor
Hofmann also noted that SUVs are only part of what’s drawing buyers to Polestar. He said that customers have really appreciated the brand’s design, materials, and build quality. Driving dynamics is another factor he brought up and that people appreciate that the cars aren’t “just an A to B vehicle.”

Like a few manufacturers, Polestar is also capitalizing on the diminished image Tesla has following Elon Musk’s involvement with the US government with conquest programs. Hofmann said the brand started its conquest incentive program in February, and renewed it for March as well as April.
