- A 33-year-old Florida man was seriously injured after a Jeep ran over him while sunbathing.
- The Jeep driver, a 61-year-old woman, has been charged with careless driving after the incident.
- The victim suffered a broken arm, femur, cracked pelvis, and third-degree burns from the accident.
A 33-year-old man from Florida found himself in a life-threatening situation earlier this week, after a Jeep driver ran over him while he was sunbathing on Ormond Beach. Police report that the 61-year-old driver of the Wrangler was attempting to park on the sand when she accidentally ran over Colson Janey.
Lying on the beach is supposed to be relaxing. And for Janey, it started out peaceful. Speaking with local media, Janey said he was dozing off while lying on his stomach, when “all of a sudden a tire was going over my head. “I was just screaming. Screaming my head off, screaming blood murder, of course, because I was just in so much pain.”

The Ocala, Florida, resident was left with several fractures in his right forearm, a broken femur, a cracked pelvis, and third-degree burns. Surgeons have already operated on him, placing a titanium rod into his leg.
“It’s like I had two brains,” Janey added during an interview with WESH 2. “One brain was just screaming and thinking about how much pain I was in. The other brain was kind of being more rational, thinking, ‘OK, what’s broken? What’s moving?’”

This has to be one of the worst ways ever of getting woken up.

It didn’t take long for EMTs to arrive on the scene. However, Janey’s aunt says the ambulance got stuck in the sand multiple times while trying to transport her injured nephew.
The Driver’s Response
As for the Jeep driver, Fox News reports that the 61-year-old Wrangler driver is cooperating with the investigation and has been charged with careless driving. Police also clarified that she “did not seem impaired” at the time of the accident. Her husband, understandably, shared that she is devastated by the incident. After all, running someone over tends to leave a person feeling more than a little guilty, even if it was an accident.
Janey, in the aftermath of the harrowing experience, has suggested there should be clearer signage at the beach to mark where motorists are and aren’t allowed to drive on the sand. While the debate over beach parking is certainly a familiar one, this incident has only highlighted the potential dangers of unregulated access to areas where people are trying to relax.
