This Modded 2002 NSX Just Sold For New Ferrari Money

  • 2002 Acura NSX-T sold for $370K despite having an aftermarket supercharger installed.
  • Only 9,000 miles on the clock helped push this modified NSX to auction history.
  • The six-speed manual gearbox no doubt added to the appeal among collector buyers.

If you need another sign that the collector car market has fully embraced the early 2000s, look no further than this silver wedge of Honda engineering. Low-mileage Acura NSXs are hard to come by, and when they do hit the public market, they can sell for some truly ridiculous figures, but this one takes the cake.

Earlier this week, a 2002 NSX-T sold for a staggering $370,000, despite the fact that it’s been modified with an aftermarket supercharger. In the process, it set a new auction record at Bring a Trailer. For context, that’s new supercar money as the new Ferrari 296 for example starts from around $347,000

The market for pristine, original NSX models has been flourishing in recent years, and this Silverstone Metallic example generated plenty of interest when it was listed for sale. Not only does it look to be in superb condition, but it has just ~9,000 miles (about 14,400 km) under its belt and only had two previous owners before the selling dealer got their hands on it.

A Clean Example With Just the Right Mods

Visually, the car is most stock. However, under the skin, the original 3.2-liter naturally-aspirated V6 was fitted with a Comptech supercharger kit and a new exhaust back in 2002. The listing doesn’t make any mention of how much power the car is pushing out, but we know it has the original six-speed manual, rather than the automatic that was also available at the time.

A look at the underside of the NSX in the listing shows that it is immaculate. Clearly, it was thoroughly detailed before the photos were taken, but there are no signs of any rust, and some parts, including the control arms and many of the bolts, look brand new. It really looks like it just rolled off the production line.

The cabin is similarly pristine. It has Silver leather upholstery and includes power-adjustable seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a six-disc CD changer. The original 17-inch forged wheels have been retained, and are wrapped in Yokohama Advan Fleva tires.

A glance at the window sticker reveals the car had an original MSRP of $89,745, or roughly $159,000 in today’s money. Given that production of the NSX wasn’t particularly limited, it’s extraordinary to see one fetch this much money at auction, especially since it was not fully stock. Whether this sets a new baseline or remains an outlier is anyone’s guess, but the NSX’s reputation as a modern classic clearly isn’t up for debate.
