Most Tesla Supercharger stations are fairly straightforward and boring. You’ve got a few charging stalls in a row of parking spaces, typically located at the back or near some big shopping center or store, all linked to a big power distribution system, usually behind a fence, and a transformer.
Because of all the components required, Supercharger stations can look a little simple, if not ugly, at times. But the American EV automaker is working on that issue, with bespoke designs for certain locations becoming more of a trend now. Remember the Tesla diner and drive-in movie concept where you could park a Model 3 and enjoy a meal and a movie before moving on?
Tesla
Tesla, Inc. is an American electric vehicle manufacturer largely attributed to driving the EV revolution. Through the Model S and subsequent products, Tesla has innovated and challenged industry conventions on numerous fronts, including over-the-air updates, self-driving technology, and automotive construction methods. Tesla is considered the world’s most valuable car brand as of 2023, and the Model Y the world’s best-selling car in the same year, but the brand’s greatest achievement is arguably the Supercharger network of EV charging stations.

The most notable of these new Supercharger stations is the Santa Monica location that’s been in development for a few years, and is said to be something of a flagship for the automaker once it goes online. It’ll not just have charging stations for electric vehicles, but it will also feature a retro-futuristic diner and other amenities to help individuals and families kill time and refresh while their car recharges.

If you’re contemplating buying a Tesla, then you’ll want to do your research first.
Roswell, New Mexico Getting Alien-Themed Superchargers
The next radically different Supercharger design was sort of leaked, since Tesla had to file certain documentation to approve the site, with renderings of what it would look like. X user @MarcoRP is notorious for finding new Tesla permits, and this new location in Roswell, New Mexico was no exception. That’s how we now know this Supercharger spot will be out of this world with an all-new UFO-inspired design.
The design incorporates a large awning over what looks to be eight Supercharger plug-ins. The awning itself has massive RGB lighting capabilities, both to illuminate the parking spaces, but also possible to display various graphics or even maybe other videos or advertisements. The renderings shared by MarcoRP, as well as Supercharger engineer Max de Zegher, show different patterns appearing on the various surfaces of the awning. The awning also sports a decent 20.88 kW solar array on the top.
Once completed, this special Supercharger location will mostly service the local Whataburger on N Main St. and is a showcase of tailored themes for various locations. Some may deem the concept gimmicky, but there’s also something to be said of bespoke architecture that leans into state- and city-specific pop cultural references, especially when it comes to well-known tourist hotspots.
Here’s hoping more future locations get customized designs, and other charging network companies take note.
