After confirming that a huge change is happening to the Subaru Outback this week, the star-spangled automaker announces another big reveal happening at the New York International Auto Show. This time, however, Subaru’s upcoming launch won’t just be a heavy revamp or refresh – it’s an all-new SUV with a nameplate we haven’t seen on a Subie before: the Trailseeker.
This is the first time we’ve heard of the Trailseeker name, and we’re scarce of information at this point. However, based on the very short press release of the global debut’s teaser, the Trailseeker will be an electric SUV, set to join the Solterra in Subaru’s lineup in the US.
“Get ready to meet your newest adventure-ready sidekick from Subaru: the all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV SUV. See it in person at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, coming soon.”
Ready For Adventures Beyond Pavement
The announcement of the Trailseeker name came with a single teaser image that shows the badge at the rear, with the shot getting a slight view of the bumper/rear cladding. Given the “adventure-ready sidekick” marketing jargon that Subaru’s using, we can almost guarantee that the Japanese automaker will bank on its renown as a maker of off-road-ready, all-wheel-drive crossovers.

Subaru also is offering some STI parts to make it sportier, too.
We won’t even blame you if you expect Subaru to introduce a Trailseeker Wilderness somewhere down the line – just like its other SUVs like the Forester and Crosstrek – as the Trailseeker and Wilderness names are just a match made in heaven. We’re just not sure just how far Subaru has developed this model for trail use, given that it’s a battery-electric vehicle.
Two Big Launches For Subaru On April 16
Whether the introduction of another electric SUV will be of great timing remains to be seen, but remember that Subaru’s gaining traction recently and quite surprisingly through an unlikely source: the Solterra. The Toyota-developed EV posted a whopping 158.7-percent sales increase in March 2025 compared to the same month last year, while year-to-date sales are up a staggering 172.9 percent.

We also know that Subaru’s been eyeing selling more hybrids rather than EVs as part of its strategy to expand in the US, so we’re a bit puzzled by this move to add another EV. In any case, we’ll know more soon enough as Subaru will be unveiling the Trailseeker at the returning New York International Auto Show on April 16, with the public display happening on April 18-27, 2025.
