Jeep Beefs Up Wagoneer With Off-Road Overland Edition

  • Jeep has introduced a rugged new Wagoneer known as the Overland special edition.
  • It features an air suspension, a limited slip differential, skid plates, and 32-inch tires.
  • Pricing starts at $72,740 which undercuts rivals such as the GMC Yukon AT4.

Jeep is known for offering Trail Rated capability, but the company hasn’t gotten around to creating a rival for the Chevrolet Tahoe Z71, GMC Yukon AT4, or Ford Expedition Tremor. However, they’re inching closer with the 2025 Wagoneer Overland.

});

Set to debut at the New York Auto Show, the special edition is billed as the most capable member of the Wagoneer family and has been designed to “venture well off the beaten path.” Thankfully, this isn’t just marketing hyperbole as the Overland sports a number of off-road focused upgrades.

Starting outside, the model rides on 20-inch wheels that are wrapped in 32-inch all-terrain tires. They’re joined by skid plates, three tow hooks, and a Quadra-Lift air suspension that provides up to 10 inches (254 mm) of ground clearance.

On top of that, the Overland has an electronic limited slip differential and a Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with a two-speed transfer case. The latter offers a 48:1 crawl ratio and a Rock Mode for extreme terrain.

The special edition is based on the Wagoneer Series II and comes nicely equipped with Nappa leather seats, a tri-zone automatic climate control system, and a tri-pane panoramic sunroof. Buyers will also find a wireless smartphone charger, all-weather floor mats, and a 10.1-inch infotainment system.

The exterior features a handful of unique touches including a black painted roof, which is a first for the Wagoneer. They’re joined by black badging and an assortment of black accents. The model also comes with roof rail crossbars, a hands-free power liftgate, and the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow package that includes a trailer brake controller and a towing capacity of up to 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg).

Buyers will find an assortment of driver assistance systems including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind-Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Path Detection. The company also throws in a 360-degree surround view camera system and Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking.

Like the standard model, power comes from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six producing 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 468 lb-ft (634 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the aforementioned four-wheel drive system.

} else {

}
});

Production is limited to 2,000 units and pricing starts at $72,740 before a $2,095 destination fee. That’s more than the Tahoe Z71, but less than the Yukon AT4 and Expedition Tremor.
